This is my Landscape & Nature Project! I went to La Quinta near Palms Springs for Thanksgiving break and went out to two locations to shoot. They were both parts of a hiking trail. One was called Cove Oasis and the other Morrow Trail near Lake Cahuilla.

One of the challenges of this was making sure it wasn't to over exposed. I had to make the shutter speed very slow which makes it easy to be blurry.

This one was fun to take. Right along the trail there's a golf course and I laid down on my stomach to get this shot. I brought the aperture way down to get the blurred background effect. I also made the shutter speed really fast to keep it properly exposed.

At this point in my photographic journey, my camera told me it was over heating. I was quite alarmed! It was very hot out but I assumed it was because I was because I had been adjusting settings really fast and at a high frequency. So I turned it off and kept it under my shirt for shade.

I made the aperture very low and got on my knees to give these twigs a very grand a majestic appearance. To me it symbolizes the subtle thriving of dessert life.

I like the colors and exposure of this picture. I think the composition is very natural and complimentary to the flower. This my choice

I think this picture personifies the desert well. I like the colorlessness and composition.

I still am in awe about how this optical illusion took place. It looks like a small island but really there is thousand of miles of desert and mountains beyond that shore. I think it's very surreal and makes me ponder infinity and the borders if reality.

This photo represented juxtaposition from my perspective as the photographer that day. My hike to this valley had been very deserted and brown. The emergence of the fertile gulf course was a refreshing contrast.

This is one of my favorites that I shot for my project. It was on a big rocky crest i had to climb (which wasn't easy). This was just after sunset and behind a lager mountain so it was difficult to keep those photos exposed. I like how it gives the desert an ethereal or alien feel. I set the stick there but I really think nature is to applaud here. The back drop of rocks against moon and sedated skies really called me to model the twig (that my dad had given me earlier). It reminds me of Georgia O'Keeffe's work. I am very proud of this one.
I liked how you didn't crop out certain things to bring out specific colors. I loved how you took different angles of the places to really give us a feel of your location. I think you could've stayed in focus a little more.

ReplyDeleteOkay, so I think tripods might be helpful when you shoot since they help stabilise the the camera.
My favourite photo is the reflection photo. It just seems like it goes on forever or is in a movie - like Inception or something.
I suggest experimenting with your editing - like sepias and black and white shots. It might widen your variety of photos.
I like how you focused on one thing, but continued to move around and challenge yourself.
Pro: I love how you can tell that you took time and effort to make your photos the way you wanted them. The point of view was always spot on and even though all the photos are different they all have a balance that makes it interesting.
ReplyDeleteCon: Some photos have a lot of empty space and eliminating some might make a better photo.
Zachary, I loved your point of view in your photos. Each picture was very unique. Also, I enjoyed the coloring you brought to all our photos. They were very pleasing to look at. However, I think for variety you could use less sky in some photos and you could try using a tir-pod next time to get a straighter image.

ReplyDeleteyour lighting is really well done in all of your pictures, very impressive. I loved the composition in your last one and in the second with grass. Well I loved the composition in all of them, but especially those too. I like how the angle you took the 7th one looks like you were leaning out of a helicopter or something.
As far as what you can do better, I am struggling. I thought maybe your yellow flowers could have been a little bit brighter and that maybe the center of the picture wouldn't have been so blurry, so there could be a stronger focal point. Loved it all though.
I have noticed. All of your photos are just amazingly gorgeous! I somewhat envy your photo-skills :D I love how all the color and texture is wonderfully done! The only critic part is be careful with aligning, but overall, everything is magnificent! ^~^
ReplyDeleteZachary, you chose some amazing places to shoot! I love your content and the POV you used in these photographs. I really enjoy all the colors and leading lines you had. Hmm a critique might have is that you could try to make a couple of these photos more tack-sharp. Very nice job!
ReplyDeleteI feel like the sun exposure at sometimes was a little too much and at certain points greatly affected the photos. I did however love the composition of your photos, your perspective was unique and I liked it.
ReplyDeleteYour project was defiantly one of my favorites. I can tell you put a lot of time and thought into each of your photos and it defiantly shows, so great job! Your photos are all so clear and clean. I love the 2nd photo. It is so pretty and i just love the feel to it. It makes me want to go golfing! Excellent!
ReplyDeleteZach I love the fact when I look at your photographs they seem like a collection and they seem like one big happy family! Your very creative and your creativity really comes out in this project. You choose things like getting on the grass something that no one else did and go gave the grass a really cool look and a different view. One thing that I think that you could take for next time is when I look at some of you photographs I see that the corners of your pictures are blurry and out of focus and I think that next time it would be good just to make sure that everything in focus! :)
