Architecture and Urban Photography Assignment

 Cityscape 01
3 March 2012
The Rose Quarter
ISO 400
1/400 sec
f/5.6
I love grey and I think that really shows through in this photo and project. I really didn't like this photo before I brought it into Lightroom.

Juxtaposition 09
3 March 2013
Waterfront Bike Trail
ISO 400
1/50 sec
f/14
I think the juxtaposition of these two is so epic. They look like they're old friends. Very different in nature but both standing still, keeping watch over the city, side by side.

 Reflective 08
3 March 2013
Waterfront Bike Trail
ISO 400
1/30 sec
f/14
I love how the water and the pole would be boring and colourless but the sky and the bridge make it very vibrant and alive.

 Urban 04
3 March 2013
SW Naito Pkwy and SW Salmon St
ISO 400
1/250 sec
f/4.5
I love the symmetry of the streets and the fountain. I practiced my editing skills to only keep the red car saturated which I think adds an interesting effect.

 Street 10
3 March 2013
Waterfront Bike Trail
ISO 400
1/25 sec
f/20
I thought this older couple was kinda cute so took a picture. I did a lot of brushing to get only the people saturated as well as brushing on the sky.

 Urban 05
3 March 2013
SW Naito Pkwy and SW Morrison St
ISO 400
1/250 sec
f/5.0
I love the composition of this photo. I think the framing is strong asa well as the minimal saturation.
 Architecture 15
3 March 2013
SW Naito Pkwy
ISO 400
1/100 sec
f/4.5
I thought this building's colours and lines were really elegant and classy yet simple which is cool.

 Urban 05
3 March 2013
Waterfront Bike Trail
ISO 400
1/8
f/25
I really liked how blurry this photo is for some reason. I think it really captures the speed and rush of the city.

Urban 06
3 Macrh 2013
Waterfront Bike Trail
ISO 400
1/20 sec
f/14
This is one of the photos I'm most proud of! I love the gloomy and dry feeling. Like it's so crisp you can hear the leaves crunching.

 Architecture 16
3 March 2013
SW Taylor St and SW 4th Ave
ISO 400
1/25 sec
f/10
I love how the streetlight and the skycraper juxtapose and compliment each other. I also used perspective to make the lamp post appear as tall as the building.

Thursday Thoughts March 14

I'm finishing up my editing and I'm really happy with the result. I think i really captured the city well. One thing i've noticed about my editing style for this project is that a lot of them have very low saturation and high clarity. I like the unity the photos have. Together they represent my love and perspective for this city.
I think with this project I've really challenged myself compositionally. Another thing I've really grown at is editing. I did a lot of specific colour adjustment to bring certain colours out. I think that's a really cool thing. Also I've begun using the brush too wich has proved to be really useful.
I get really frustrated with technology a lot but it's really amazing how certain tools can access uknown realms of your creativity.
Even though they're a bit cold and grey I love the photos I took for this project!

Thursday Thoughts March 7

This week I got a chance to shoot downtown for my Urban and Cityscape project! I got some great photos!! However the photo shoot itself was a bit of a let down because I intended to go for a few hours but my SD card filled up (because I didn't delete all the photos from my previous upload).
It was still fun while it lasted though! I went down to the waterfront by the fountains and went up SW 2nd.
In class we covered a lot about portrait photography such as lighting. Joseph showed us his cool lights in the Mac lab and we had a flour sac baby photo shoot. That was fun! I learned about Key Lights, Fill Lights, and Back Lights. I thought the back lights were particularly interesting because I never thought about the shadows in the back of a studio. I realized Photographic Lighting is an art in itself!
I read Tali's Thursday Thoughts and I agree with her concerns about the Urban and Cityscape Project. We don't have a lot of time left and we've been moving in to some new topics. I hope we have a lot of time to edit in class.
I'm excited to shoot more downtown.

Thursday Thoughts Febraury 28

This week we only had class twice which is really sad. As I recall this week I edited the photos we took at Target. I was very happy with a lot of them! I tried experimenting with closeups which is a type of photography I really appreciate. I still struggle sometimes with shutter speed and keep my images not blurry.
Joseph also talked about the Urban and Cityscape project which is exciting. I'm nevervous about asking strangers to pose but I really look forward to the results because I think street photography is raelly personal and inspiring.
Also this week I experimented with slow shutter speed and took some really cool pictures with my brother and and a flashlight. Some of them turned out really dramatic and a bit psychedelic which I love!
